4 tips to decorate little girl’s bedroom

Tips

1 Limit the number of furnishings. The same home decorating rule that applies to furniture extends to furnishings. Edit what she has and help her decide what she truly wants to keep and what she can do without. That old rocking chair that’s been in the corner since she was a toddler may find a better life in another room. If she has three lamps but only needs two, considering repurposing the other. If the area rug on the floor is dingy or too busy for the space, give it to charity. The adage, “less is more” is absolutely true when decorating a small bedroom.

2 Remove Clutter.By clearing out clutter and unnecessary items for your small bedroom, you will instantly create the illusion of extra space. Perhaps you can move extra furniture to anther room. Remove books and magazines you are not currently reading. Organizing the closet will allow you to tuck a clothes hamper inside rather than piling clothes on the floor. Remove extra bed pillows, and select tailored bed linens, bed skirt and window treatments for visual impact.

3 Find creative ways to organize. If she has a larger-than-average closet, place the chest-of-drawers in the closet rather than in the room. Plastic containers that were originally intended to store wrapping paper can easily hold her important papers, craft supplies and magazines, and be stowed away under the bed. A row of small baskets hung on the wall can house her hair supplies and jewelry. Rather than allow it to take up floor space, hang a small bookshelf on a wall to display her books and sentimental items. A piece of fishing net hung in the corner of the room will easily hold those stuffed animals she’s not quite ready to part with.
4 Focal Point. To simplify a little girl’s bedroom, create one focal point to draw your eye. Adding a simple colorful piece of art above a neutral colored bed provides visual interest while maintaining a clean look. If you do not particularly like your bed and would rather draw attention elsewhere, put an attractive vase alone on the dresser without any other knickknacks.
